# Model Deprecation

Model deprecation is a provider retiring a model version on its own schedule.

It forces a migration whether or not the team asked for a change.

Treated as a planned release, dated on a calendar before the actual shutoff, it gets its own gate and rollout.

Treated as a surprise, it becomes an emergency cutover the week the old model stops answering.
